Inclusion at St Joseph's Catholic Primary School

Inclusion and SEND provision at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary school strives to ensure that all children receive a high-quality of education regardless of their needs or disabilities. All children and young people should expect to receive an education that enables them to Shine in the light of Jesus to be the best that they can be!

At St Joseph’s we believe that everyone is equally important and are proud of our record of inclusion.

• Pupils demonstrate the school’s vision, ‘shine’, in all that they do. Pupils are polite, kind and friendly. They understand the importance of inclusion and make sure that pupils who join the school are warmly welcomed into the St Joseph’s family.

• Adults are aspirational for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

• They (Leaders) are relentless in their efforts to secure the support that pupils and their families need.”

(Ofsted, December 2022 on the school’s ethos of inclusion).

We want our children to become confident, able to communicate their own views and be ready to make a successful transition into secondary school and onto adulthood.

We believe that all children should be equipped with the tools needed to be able to become independent learners, both inside and outside of the classroom.  We understand that all children can benefit from support across a wide range of needs be it academic, social and emotional needs, communication and interaction and physical or sensory needs.  This is provided within our Ordinarily Available Provision.

Ordinarily available provision refers to the support that every school and college provides to help all children and young people learn. This should include high-quality, inclusive teaching, ensuring every child feels welcome and can succeed, no matter their background or abilities. Schools provide a wide range of support to help all children and young people succeed.  The Wiltshire Local Offer website provides a good source of guidance for ordinarily available provision.

Some children may need further additional support and we recognise that every child is unique, and so - at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School - every teacher is a teacher of SEND. Our provision is enhanced by the collaboration of teachers, senior leaders, the SENCo, support staff, external agencies, and parents, and most importantly we keep your child at the very heart of our St Joseph’s family at all times.

Who are the best people to talk to at St Joseph’s about my child’s difficulties with learning, special educational needs or disability?

If you require more information about SEND provision at St Joseph’s for your child, please contact your child’s class teacher in the first instance.

It is likely that the class teacher will have discussed your concerns with the school SENCO

Mrs Jones is our SENCo and is always happy to have a chat.  Contact our school office to make an appointment on 01380 723084 or via email secretary@stjosdevizes.wilts.sch.uk
